TRY CLIMBING

The Try Climbing session is a 1-hour guided climbing experience. Your safety will be taken care of by our skilled guides. The session will be progressive, starting with a warm-up and some easy climbing before advancing onto higher walls and harder routes. You set your own limits while our crew will encourage you every step of the way.

TRY BOULDERING

For kids under the age of 13 years, we offer the Try Bouldering experience, a 1-hour session where our experienced Camp5 guides will bring you to various walls, gradually progressive from easy problems to something a little more challenging.

As learning to boulder is also a 1-hour session, anyone of age 13 or older would be encouraged to jump on a Basic Bouldering Course and become an independent boulderer.

LEARN TO CLIMB

When you are ready, our instructors will guide you though your first steps to becoming a certified climber. Graduates will enjoy independent access and climber entry rate to Camp5. Our instructors have been trained and certified through a IFMGA member association as assurance that the skills you will learn are universally accepted safe climbing practice.

BASIC WALL COURSE

The Basic Wall Course (BWC) is an entry-level introduction to climbing. Designed for beginners or climbers looking to refresh their skills, the BWC curriculum covers the knowledge and skills necessary to be able to climb in Camp5 independently.

You will learn about basic equipment, correct usage, care and maintenance and safety climbing practices applicable to top rope sport climbing, including how to tie-in, proper belay technique, buddy checks and commands. We’ll also cover basic climbing technique, bouldering and spotting.

At the conclusion, you will receive your very own Camp5 member card and be able to enter and boulder at any Camp5 outlet. Basic Boulder Course is recommended for 13 years of age and older.

EXPERIENCED CLIMBERS, WELCOME

As an experienced climber, we are excited to welcome you to our community. To ensure a smooth and swift passage from the threshold to the wall, we are here to assist you with the check-in process.

All climbers must register online first, before check-in. Registration is FREE and for LIFE. So if you visited Camp5 10 years ago, chances are you already are registered. Click the button above and select from the 3 options for new or returning members.

Camp5 provides a Member Portal via which you can track your attendance, renew your membership and obtain any past receipts. If you have a paid-up membership term you can also use the portal to check in via the express lane and avoid counter queues.

BECOMING A MEMBER

First, let us define who is a Camp5 Member – Anyone who has registered via http://register.camp5.com and made a visit to an outlet, is a Camp5 Member.

Being a member on its own does not automatically imply you can enter a Camp5 outlet. In order to gain access you will need to either:

  • Satisfy the minimum prerequisite skills and be 13 years of age or older
  • Check-in as a “Guest” of a current member who is aged 18 or older

On your very first visit you will be asked about your current skill level and receive a short orientation to ensure you are familiar with the conditions of entry, which may differ from climbing gyms you have previously visited.

Depending on your current experience, you may be given a:

  • Yellow card – Novice/Guest (given only on 2nd visit)
  • White card – ABC Climber (Camp5 Paradigm only)
  • Pink card – Boulder-only
  • Blue card – Top-rope climber
  • Green card – Lead climber
  • Red card – Pro climber (permitted to climb the 20m ProWall @ Camp5 1Utama)

You are responsible to ensure your skills are current. Every 12 months you will be required to revalidate your Member profile.  Kindly inform Camp5 of any change in your competency.

NOVICE-GUEST

A Novice level climber is defined as any registered member who currently does not meet the minimum skill and experience required to be granted unsupervised independent access to Camp5.

A Novice level climber you may only enter Camp5 as a Guest of an Adult Member who has been granted independent access, or as a participant in a program.

A Novice climber can upgrade to Boulder-only or Top-rope level by:

  1. Participating in the Basic Bouldering or Basic Wall Course at Camp5 or comparable level of training at another climbing center, or.
  2. After the 2nd or 5th visit respectively at the discretion of the Camp5.

BOULDER-ONLY

The following defines the minimum skill and experience required for anyone seeking to have independent access to Camp5 for bouldering-only.

  1. Age 13 years or older.
  2. Have attended the Basic Bouldering Course at Camp5 or comparable level of training at another climbing center and/or
  3. Can attest to having knowledge and proficiency in skills relevant to bouldering safety including but not limited to; falling, spotting, wall, holds and crashmat hazard awareness.

TOP ROPE CLIMBER

The following defines the minimum skill and experience required for anyone seeking to have independent access to Camp5 for top rope climbing & bouldering.

Additional to the Boulder-only prerequisites.

  1. Have attended the Basic Wall Course at Camp5 or comparable level of training at another climbing center and/or
  2. Can attest to having knowledge and proficiency in skills relevant to top-rope safety including but not limited to; proper fitting of harness, setup and safe belay practice, able to tie-in as climber, buddy checks, commands and general safety considerations for indoor climbing.

LEAD CLIMBER

The following defines the minimum skill and experience required for anyone seeking to have independent access to Camp5 for lead climbing.

Additional to the Top-rope Climber prerequisites.

  1. Have attended the Lead Wall Course at Camp5 or comparable level of training at another climbing center and/or
  2. Can attest to having knowledge and proficiency in skills relevant to lead climber safety including but not limited to; rope management, clipping method to avoid back-clip or z-clip quickdraw, considerations for falling, safe lead belay practice and general safety considerations for indoor lead climbing.

PRO WALL CLIMBER

The Pro Wall at Camp5 1Utama stands 20.3m tall with total overhang exceeding 10m. To celebrate the climbers who have reached a level that they can take on this beast, we created the Pro Wall Level. The following defines the minimum skill and experience required for anyone seeking to have access to climb the Pro Wall.

Additional to the Lead Climber prerequisites.

  1. Can lead climb a minimum grade level of 6c (5.11a/b).
  2. Nominated by 2 current Pro Wall Climbers.
  3. Agrees to uphold the highest standard of safety and set an example of stewardship for others to aspire to.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the process to confirm my current skill level?
When you make your first visit to Camp5 our crew will ask questions so they may get an understanding of your past and recent climbing experience. It is vital that you give an honest answer.

Will I be required to provide a practical assessment?
No. We follow the common practice of climbing gyms in Europe that require a signed agreement in order to access. We trust that you will be honest about your experience when asked during the registration.

How do I upgrade my current skill level?
Typically the fastest way to upgrade is to attend a course either at Camp5 or another climbing center. We understand that skills can be acquired outside of formal training. Upgrading in lieu of any formal training is possible though in some cases an upgrade may be denied. For example, if you first register as a Novice member, you will only be able to upgrade on your 3rd visit.

Can my skill level be downgraded?
If you have taken a break from climbing and do not feel confident to climb at the skill level currently assigned, please inform Camp5 crew so that we can reassign the appropriate skill level to your member profile.

Should we observe any practice that contradicts what is reasonable to expect from a climber of your current skill level, Camp5 may temporarily downgrade your level until such time as we can determine that you are competent. Should the downgrade mean that you are reassigned to Novice Level you may be prohibited from continuing your climbing unless a member is willing to host you. There will be no refund given for anyone who loses access and is forced to stop climbing on account of their having insufficient skill.

Can I use my Member Card to visit any Camp5 outlet?
Yes. You may check-in at any Camp5 outlet with the same member card.

What if I lose my Member Card?
If you have misplaced your Member Card we ask that you provide some form of photo ID on check-in (Driver License or IC). If you have lost your card a new Member Card can be issued. Replacement card fee may apply.

KIDS KATAK & CICAK CLUBS

Climbing comes naturally to kids. Many factors contribute to making climbing a uniquely rewarding activity for growing children. Climbing develops coordination, motor skills, and balanced muscle development. Perhaps the greatest reward a child receives is a boost of confidence and self-esteem as they take on and overcome each challenge.

The Katak and Cicak Clubs bring kids together in a fun learning environment. Sessions are scheduled weekly, kids can attend any class. Advanced booking is required in order to secure your spot and so that we can plan according to group size.

How old is your child?

Katak Club is for toddlers and kids aged 1-5 years.

Cicak Club is for kids aged 6-12 Years.

BOOK KATAKBOOK CICAK

ABOUT THE KATAK CLUB

Katak Club class sessions are scheduled once weekly and a currently ONLY AVAILABLE AT CAMP5 JUMPA & CAMP5 UTROPOLIS.

The Katak Club are guardian-supervised sessions, where by the Parent/Guardian is responsible to provide 1:1 direct supervision of their child. Each session will combine short games and age relevant challenges designed to assist in development of motor skills and cognitive ability. A 15 min orientation safety briefing will be available at the start of each session so its especially important that new joiners arrive early.

Advanced booking is required,  walk-in booking will only be accommodated if there are spaces available.

After completing minimum 2 sessions, any Katak Club Parent interested to climb with this kids on their own time, may speak to the club leader about registering for Boulder-only access to Camp5.

ABOUT THE CICAK CLUB

Cicak Club sessions include climbing skill lessons and games that provide both cognitive and motor skills development within the 90min program. Each lesson is recording in your child’s own Cicak Club Logbook so you can monitor their progress.

Advanced booking is required to ensure we maintain a ratio of not more than 5 kids per staff,  walk-in booking will only be accommodated if there are spaces available.

For your convenience, you may ask the desk crew to reserve your kids booking on future Cicak Club sessions. Just be sure to let us know if you need to cancel your booking as a courtesy to other club members. Camp5 may deduct a class for no-shows.

Whilst we do run Cicak Clubs at many Camp5 outlets, changing venue is not recommended. Any need to switch outlet must to be informed to Camp5 1 week in advance so that your child’s club records can be transferred in advance of your next session.

Cicak Club class sessions are scheduled twice weekly. Parents can opt for either one of the classes or do both in the same week. We do recommend kids attend at least 1 class per week in order to maintain consistency in their practice.

Who can join the Katak Club?
Any kids between ages 1-5. Once kids turn 6 they can transfer to Cicak Club.

Does the Parent need to take part in the Katak Club?
Yes, due to the particularly young age of the kids, at least 1 parent must be accompanying a maximum of 2 kids. We also believe he participation by the parent enriches the experience for the child.

Are climbing shoes provided in the Katak or Cicak Clubs?
Climbing shoes are available however sizes are limited. For 1 – 2 yo kids on the Katak club we may not be able to find a suitable fit, in which case we would as the child to climb with socks. If you have some grip sock, please bring them as a backup.

Who can join the Cicak Club?
Any kids between ages 6-12. Once kids turn 13 they can transfer to one of the Youth teams.

THE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The benefit of climbing for young bodies and minds is widely known. From motor skill development, problem-solving, and self-confidence, few sports provide the range of growth inherent and integral to climbing. Our Youth Development Program is designed to maximize these benefits and more.

Starting from the Cicak Club at 6 years old, we provide a roadmap of continuous training for children of all abilities through to their adult years. Every step of the way our coaches work on climbing ability, strength and endurance, in parallel with goal setting, injury prevention and other skills that are needed in the competitive arena.

The Cicak Club is run year-round, new members can enroll in the Cicak Club at any time throughout the year.

The Base Camp, Squad and Youth Teams follow two seasons; Summer (January – June) and Winter (September – December). At the start of each of these seasons, a Try Out day is held to meet the prospective participants. Those wishing to join one of these programs will need to enroll on the Try Out day prior to the start of the season.

BASE CAMP

The Base Camp is a 10-week introductory program to climbing. The group focuses on the basics of movement; stepping, body positioning, decision making and also covers safety, how to use each area of a climbing gym, the different types of climbing and climbing etiquette. Upon graduating from the Base Camp, each member will be invited to join The Squad.

With just one 90 minute session a week, this program is perfect for novices interested in finding out what climbing is all about!

THE SQUAD

The Squad is a twice-weekly climbing practice that covers climbing skills, strength and power conditioning. Members are taught advanced climbing skills such as static and dynamic movement techniques, pacing and route reading. Our coaches provide individualized feedback to assist the participants on the journey in accomplishing their goals.

Members of the Squad are required to be top rope proficient by the 4th week of the program, please ask a member of the coaching staff for further details.

YOUTH TEAM

Our Youth Team is the perfect spot for those dedicated to improving their competition climbing skills. Selected from The Squad, this program focuses on more advanced movement skills, strength and conditioning.There is a greater emphasis placed on learning and improving performance in a competitive environment. Members of this Team go on to compete nationally and internationally.

Members of the Youth Team are required to be Lead Climber proficient by the 4th week of the program, please ask a member of the coaching staff for further details.

Schedule: Tuesday & Friday 6:30-8:00pm
Enrollment: Team selection is made via Tryouts run twice annually

    At the start of each season Camp5 runs a Try Outs. This is an introductory session to the Youth Development Programs and the selection for the Base Camp, The Squad and The Youth Team. After a series of fun tests and challenges, our coaches are able to make program recommendations for each of the participants. The participants and their families are then able to listen to our coach’s advice and make a decision on which program they would like to attend.

    I’m not sure which one of these programs suits my child, can you assist with a recommendation?
    All enquiries for programs can be directed through the link above. In order for us to be able to assist you, please let us know how old your child / children are and how much climbing experience they already have. We will be in touch with you shortly to discuss your options.

    Can my child join one of the programs part way through the season?
    Kids can join the Cicak Club at any time throughout the year. As the syllabus for The Base Camp, The Squad and The Youth Team are progressive we recommend that new members only join at the beginning of seasons. Please contact us via the link above to discuss your options.

    Can my child attend Base Camp, Squad and Youth Programs on an ad-hoc basis?
    We highly recommend that each participant joins every session to maximise their learning and improvement throughout the programs’ syllabus. We do not provide a prorated fee for these programs.

    Can I use a 3 or 12 month pass 20% discount on the Youth Programs.
    Yes! As long as the pass is on the child’s membership account, they are eligible for a 20% discount on any of our youth programs.

    Why doesn’t the program fee for The Base Camp, The Squad or The Team also cover entry to the gym?
    Keeping the entry fee separate from the program fee provides our members with greater flexibility. This method allows members to choose which Entry Pass they would like to purchase, as each pass has its own benefits. For more information on entry fees and their advantages please click here.

    How much does the Try Outs cost and do I have to pay it each season?
    The fee for the Try Outs is RM200. Current Members of the Youth Programs have to attend the Try Outs each season, though their attendance is free of charge.

    Combining climbing, games and good food, our birthday party packages are an easy option for a hassle-free celebration of your kid’s next big day. As climbing comes naturally, you can be assured that everyone can take it up – even the Adults!

    Camp5 offers a number of standard party formats and can tailor activities to suit the kid’s age, size of group and ability. Our experienced staff will take care of safety and challenge your kids, ensuring no one is left out. We have an array of climbing-related games and even a mini-competition to choose from.

    Programs can be 2 or more hours inclusive 1, 1.5, or 2 hours climbing activity followed by a fully-catered party in the Cafe. The most popular format is 1-hour Climbing + 1-hour Party.

      How do you conduct your birthday party program?
      We run our birthday party similar to the 1 hour Try Climbing session. Birthday party booking is an exclusive booking in which you get the booking slot only for your group. We will also allocate experienced staff to rock on your kid’s birthday climbing session.

      How many guides will I have for my groups?
      Our safety ratio is 1 guide to every 5 participants.

      Is there any age limit?
      Participants must be able to understand instructions from our guides. We have had birthday parties for as young as 4 year old and as ripe as a 49 year old man.

      What is the minimum number required?
      The minimum number is 10 participants including the birthday child/children.

      Does the activity fee include food?
      No. Food and beverages are charged separately. Food cost depends on how much food you order. Our birthday coordinator will assist and advise you the quantity to order. 

      Can I bring my own cake?
      Bring your own cake or any food representing cake (e.g cupcakes) will be charged RM20.00.  This fee cannot be waived.

      What kind of attire should participants wear?
      Loose comfortable clothing works well such as sport attires. All participants are advised to bring their own socks to avoid extra charges.

      ABC CLIMBING

      ABC Climbing is for complete beginners — friends, parents and children alike! Simply turn up at Camp5 in your sporty clothing, check in with our staff, run through a 10-minute briefing then off you go! Our Novice wall is specially designed so that even with varying levels of fitness and experience, you, your friends and children can climb together.

      All ABC climbers receive a free keycard upon completion of the 10-minute briefing so that you can simply flash your keycard at the next visit, grab an entry pass, rent gears and start your climb!

      ABC climber access policies and privileges
      Climbers under 13 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Independent access is permitted for 13 years and older. An adult, aged 18 years and older, may host up to a maximum of two youths (>13). A parent must accompany additional three youths (siblings).

      What is the ABC Climber option and how does it differ?
      The ABC system enables first-time climbers to get hands-on and climb independently with minimal training. Think of it like comparing go-karting to getting a driver’s license.

      What is the minimum age to join?
      There’s no minimum age however the standard Camp5 Access Policy applies. Any kids under 13 will need to be accompanied by an Adult.

      Do I need to make a booking for the ABC orientation?
      No. Just walk-in, our crew are ready to guide you. If it is your first visit, you will need to register. You can also do this online at register.camp5.com before you arrive. The registration process takes about 5min and you’ll be issued with your own member card.

      Will I get a certificate?
      No. The ABC system eliminated the need to learn the skills related to regular sport climbing, You will receive a Camp5 ABC Member card to make it easier to check-in when you visit.

      Do I need to be fit to climb?
      No, our ABC is specially set up so new climbers of all levels of ability can find a challenge suitable to their fitness level. As you climb more your fitness level and climbing skills will improve.

      As a parent can I just supervise?
      Yes. At least 1 Adult needs to receive the orientation to know how to supervise the younger climbers in the group. But this doesn’t mean you must climb. We have a Adult ‘non-climbing’ entry option just for this purpose.
